What is Alzheimer's Disease?
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive brain disorder that slowly destroys memory, thinking skills, and eventually the ability to carry out simple tasks. It is the most common cause of dementia among older adults. The disease develops gradually and worsens over time, affecting a person’s ability to live independently.
Alzheimer’s occurs when abnormal protein deposits in the brain form plaques and tangles, which disrupt communication between nerve cells and cause them to die. The exact cause is still not fully understood, but age, genetics, and certain lifestyle factors increase the risk.
Symptoms of Alzheimer's Disease
Symptoms usually start slowly and get worse over time. They include:

Memory loss (especially recent events)

Difficulty performing familiar tasks

Problems with language (struggling to find the right words)

Disorientation (getting lost in familiar places or not knowing the date/time)

Poor judgment (such as trouble managing money or making decisions)

Mood and personality changes (such as increased confusion, suspicion, depression, fear, or anxiety)

Withdrawal from social activities or work
As the disease progresses, people may have trouble walking, speaking, or swallowing and need help with basic activities of daily living.
